Rated: NR Format: Blu-ray Blu-ray Editorial Review
** Stardust [Blu-ray]** Stardust emerges as a delightful blend of fantasy and charm, showcasing a uniquely crafted narrative based on Neil Gaiman's acclaimed novel. The film's engaging storyline intertwines magic, adventure, romance, and humor, invoking comparisons to classic stories like those found in Alice in Wonderland and The Princess Bride. However, while it has a lighthearted tone akin to those tales, Stardust firmly stands on its own as a true fantasy rather than a parody. The star-studded cast delivers excellent performances, with Michelle Pfeiffer's portrayal of the villainous Lamia and Robert De Niro's unexpected role as Captain Shakespeare garnering particular praise. Pfeiffer brings both beauty and a chilling demeanor to her character, making her a formidable presence throughout the film. De Niro surprises audiences with a nuanced performance that reveals layers to his character, highlighting both humor and complexity. Claire Danes shines as the fallen star Yvaine, and Charlie Cox effectively embodies the bumbling hero, Tristan, resulting in a dynamic ensemble that elevates the film's storytelling. Critics and viewers alike applaud the refreshing reversal of traditional character roles, where princes are often selfish and the damsel-in-distress exhibits strength and cleverness. This deviation from the clichéd tropes of the fantasy genre adds depth to the narrative, focusing on personal growth, character determination, and the discovery of one's purpose. The film is praised not only for its entertaining storytelling but also for its ability to engage audiences through humor, action, and sincere emotional moments. Overall, Stardust is regarded as an underrated gem that encourages viewers to embrace its magic and whimsy. It's a film that successfully entertains, offering a perfect escape into a fantastical realm. **Pros and Cons:** **
