Polonya'nın hızla mağlup edilmesinin ardından Fransa'yı istila hazırlıklarının sürdüğü dönemde, 1914'teki Schlieffen Planı'nı bir nebze değiştirerek yeniden uygulamak isteyen Alman genelkurmayınınkine alternatif bir harekat planı hazırladı.
